The paradise shelduck, or pūtangitangi, is a goose-like duck species endemic to New Zealand. Classified by Johann Friedrich Gmelin in the Anas genus, it is known for its distinctive sexual dimorphism. Males have a black head and barred black body, while females have a white head and chestnut body. These ducks typically weigh between 1.09 and 2 kg and measure 63 to 71 cm in length. Their unique appearance and endemic status make them a notable species in New Zealand's ecosystem.
