The Creature Commandos are a fictional DC Comics team of military superhumans initially introduced during World War II. Created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick, the team debuted in Weird War Tales #93. The original lineup featured a human leader commanding a unique squad comprising a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein's monster, and a gorgon.
In 1942, Project M created the original Creature Commandos team consisting of Lt. Matthew Shrieve (human), Warren Griffith (werewolf), Sgt. Vincent Velcro (vampire), Pvt. Elliot "Lucky" Taylor (Frankensteinian monster), and Dr. Myrna Rhodes (gorgon).
In 1943, the Creature Commandos were sent to Dinosaur Island to investigate missing Allied planes. They found a hidden Axis base and used the island's dinosaurs against the Japanese navy. Sgt. Velcro destroyed photographic evidence to protect the dinosaurs from the war.
The fictional DC Comics military superhuman team, Creature Commandos, was introduced in Weird War Tales #93 in November 1980. The team was created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick.
The Weird War Tales series, featuring the Creature Commandos written by Robert Kanigher (who took over from J. M. DeMatteis), was canceled in 1983.
The modern version of the Creature Commandos, written by Tim Truman and drawn by Scot Eaton, concluded their own miniseries run with issue #8 in December 2000.
The modern Creature Commandos appeared in The OMAC Project #1-6, which ran from June to November 2005.
