Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall, constructed in AD 122 during Emperor Hadrian's reign, was a defensive fortification in Roman Britannia. Spanning northern England from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway, it consisted of a stone wall with ditches, forts, milecastles, and turrets for garrisoned soldiers. Besides its military function, the wall's gates potentially served as customs posts, controlling movement and trade across the province.
