Before acting, she was known for her activism, particularly her involvement in the 2016 lawsuit against North Carolina's Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, also known as the "bathroom bill," which restricted transgender individuals' access to public restrooms. Her activism led to her inclusion in Teen Vogue's "21 under 21" list in 2017.
