The Italian Open is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Rome, Italy, taking place in the second week of May. Played on clay courts at the Foro Italico, it's a combined event since 2011, featuring both ATP Masters 1000 (men) and WTA 1000 (women) tournaments.

In 1990, the Italian Open became an ATP Championship Series Single Week tournament.
For the 2010 tournament, the main stadium court, Stadio Centrale, was rebuilt and has a capacity of 10,400 spectators.
In 2011, the ATP and WTA events were combined at the Italian Open.
