Educated in Classics, he is one of Britain's leading verse writers, with many of his plays performed at the Royal National Theatre. Harrison is known for controversial works, like his poem "V", and for translating classic dramas, ranging from ancient Greek tragedies to Molière. His outspoken views, especially on the Iraq War, have also made him a notable public figure. He was awarded the David Cohen Prize in 2015 for his contributions to literature and the Premio Feronia in 2016.
