Chennai (Madras), the capital of Tamil Nadu, India, is situated on the Coromandel Coast along the Bay of Bengal. It's India's sixth-most-populous city (2011 census) and fourth-largest urban agglomeration. Notably, the Greater Chennai Corporation, established in 1688, stands as the oldest municipal corporation in India and the second oldest globally, following London.
