Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel is a 17.6-mile bridge–tunnel connecting Delmarva and Hampton Roads in Virginia. Opened in 1964, it replaced ferry services dating back to the 1930s. The structure includes both bridge and tunnel sections, making it an engineering marvel. A project to dualize the bridge spans was completed in 1999, and a similar project to dualize one of its tunnels began in 2017. The bridge-tunnel is a major transportation artery and a significant landmark.
