Colt State Park

Colt State Park, a 464-acre recreation area in Bristol, Rhode Island, was formerly owned by Samuel P. Colt. It is a significant part of the Poppasquash Farms Historic District and a stop on the East Bay Bike Path. The park offers trails, picnic areas, boat ramps, an observation tower, and the Chapel-by-the-Sea, providing diverse recreational opportunities and historical significance.

1905: Colt purchases and consolidates farms

In 1905, Samuel P. Colt began purchasing and consolidating the Chase, Church, and Van Wickle farms. He later built a summer house called the "Casino" and a stone barn for his Jersey cattle.
