August 2016: Doha Chosen to Host "World Tour Platinum" Event
In August 2016, the ITTF announced that Doha was selected as one of six cities to host a "World Tour Platinum" event in 2017.
2017: "World Tour Platinum" Event in Doha
In 2017, Doha hosted a "World Tour Platinum" event, replacing the Super Series as the top tier of the ITTF World Tour.
