Sanibel, Florida is a city and island located in Lee County. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,382. The island itself constitutes the entirety of the city and is a barrier island formed by sand accumulation on the leeward side of Pine Island's coral rock.

September 1960: Hurricane Donna
