Scotland, a country forming part of the United Kingdom, occupies nearly a third of the UK's land area. It is located in the northern part of Great Britain and includes over 790 islands, mainly within the Hebrides and Northern Isles archipelagos. Bordered by England to the southeast, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, the North Sea to the northeast and east, and the Irish Sea to the south. Scotland had a population of approximately 5.4 million in 2022. Edinburgh serves as its capital city, while Glasgow is its most populous city.
