History of State football leagues in Brazil in Timeline
State football leagues in Brazil are professional adult male football competitions held between January and April, except in some Northern states where they occur later. The Campeonato Paulista, established in 1902, is the oldest competition. All professional clubs participate in these state championships, though not all qualify for the national league. These leagues serve as crucial qualifying stages and provide regional rivalries and opportunities for teams to showcase their talent before the national stage.
