Twice is a highly successful South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment, consisting of nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. Recognized as one of the best-selling girl groups ever, they hold a significant place as one of K-pop's most influential acts. Known as "The Nation's Girl Group" in South Korea, they are credited with spearheading the resurgence of girl groups within the Korean Wave. Initially known for their 'cute' concepts, the group has showcased versatility by exploring more mature and elegant themes in their music and image.
In 1998, Park Ji-yoon originally released the song "Precious Love", which was later rearranged and included on Twice's EP Page Two.
In 2010, Miss A debuted. This was the first female group to come out of JYP Entertainment before JYPE announced that they would debut a new girl group in the first half of 2014.
In 2011, was the last time a Korean artist appeared on the musical show Kōhaku Uta Gassen before Twice performed in 2017.
In 2012, JYP Entertainment planned to debut a Japanese girl group, including Sana and Momo, but the project was suspended due to strained Korean-Japanese relations.
On December 19, 2013, JYP Entertainment (JYPE) announced plans to debut a new girl group in the first half of 2014, marking the first female group from the company since Miss A's debut in 2010.
On February 27, 2014, JYPE trainees Lena and Cecilia were confirmed as members of a group tentatively called 6MIX, with Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Minyoung rumored to join. The debut plan was eventually canceled due to Lena and Cecilia leaving the company.
On February 11, 2015, J. Y. Park, the founder of JYPE, announced that the lineup of the upcoming girl group would be decided through Sixteen, a competition survival show that would air on Mnet later that year.

On October 20, 2015, Twice officially debuted with the release of their first extended play (EP), The Story Begins.

"Cheer Up" became a viral meme and the best-performing single in South Korea for 2016.
Following their consecutive commercial successes in 2016 and 2017 Twice has since been dubbed by Korean media as the "Nation's Girl Group".

On December 11, 2017, Twice released the Christmas-inspired reissue of Twicetagram, titled Merry & Happy, along with its lead single "Heart Shaker". The album and single topped multiple charts, with "Merry & Happy" peaking at No. 24 on the Gaon Digital Chart.
As of 2017, Twice has represented about 30 different brands including cosmetics, clothing, online and mobile games, food and beverages, credit cards, and more.
