United Airlines Flight 232

United Airlines Flight 232, en route from Denver to Chicago and Philadelphia, crash-landed in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 19, 1989, after a catastrophic engine failure disabled all flight controls. A manufacturing defect in the tail-mounted engine's fan disk led to the disaster. Of the 296 people aboard the DC-10, 111 perished, making it United Airlines' deadliest single-aircraft accident. However, 185 people survived, including thirteen uninjured passengers.
