Apalachee High School, located near Winder, Georgia, is a public high school and part of Barrow County Schools. The school mascot is the Wildcats. Apalachee High School is a Title I school, with Haymon-Morris Middle School and Westside Middle School serving as feeder schools.
Apalachee High School first opened in 2000, marking the establishment of Barrow County's second high school.
On September 4, 2024, a tragic mass shooting occurred at Apalachee High School. The incident resulted in the loss of at least four lives and left nine individuals injured. Law enforcement apprehended a 14-year-old student, who is now facing murder charges in connection with the shooting.
As of 2024, Apalachee High School has an enrollment of approximately 1,900 students across grades 9-12. The school represents a diverse student body comprising white, Hispanic, Black, and a smaller percentage of Asian students. Notably, almost half of the student population comes from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
