Banco del Bienestar

Banco del Bienestar is a state-owned bank in Mexico. It provides financial services and distributes resources for the federal government's social programs. Established in 2018, it replaced Banco del Ahorro Nacional y Servicios Financieros and previously operated as Patronato del Ahorro Nacional. It plays a key role in delivering government aid and financial inclusion across Mexico.

1946: Economic Initiatives Under President Miguel Alemán Valdés

In 1946, during President Miguel Alemán Valdés' term, there was an encouragement of creating small and medium-sized companies to bolster the economy through private investment funding.

January 1950: Establishment of Patronato del Ahorro Nacional (Pahnal)

In January 1950, the Patronato del Ahorro Nacional (Pahnal) was created, with its primary investment tool being Bonos del Ahorro Nacional (National Savings Bond). On its first day, bonds worth 5 million pesos were invested.

1951: Creation of Bono del Ahorro Escolar

In 1951, the Bono del Ahorro Escolar (School Savings Bond) was created to promote savings among elementary school students through the purchase of 20-cent stamps.

1952: Devaluation of the Mexican Peso

In 1952, during the term of President Miguel Alemán Valdés, the Mexican peso devalued from 4.85 to 8.65 against the dollar due to economic crisis. President Alemán considered savings as a way to strengthen and develop the country.

June 2, 2001: Organic Law of the Banco del Ahorro Nacional y Servicios Financieros

On June 2, 2001, the Organic Law of the Banco del Ahorro Nacional y Servicios Financieros was passed, leading to the creation of Bansefi.

January 2, 2002: Bansefi Begins Operations

On January 2, 2002, Bansefi commenced operations with the purpose of promoting savings and financial inclusion.

2018: Banco del Bienestar Replaces Bansefi

In 2018, Banco del Bienestar replaced Banco del Ahorro Nacional y Servicios Financieros (Bansefi), which itself had been preceded by Patronato del Ahorro Nacional (Pahnal).
