Benjamin Hall, 1st Baron Llanover, was a significant Whig/Liberal politician and reformer in 19th-century Britain. He served in the House of Commons from 1831 to 1859 and later in the House of Lords after being elevated to the peerage. As President of the Board of Health (1854-1855), he held a Cabinet position, and he later served as First Commissioner of Public Works until 1858. He was instrumental in driving social, church, health, and local government reforms during his time in office, working under Lords Aberdeen and Palmerston.
In 2000, Benjamin Hall identified significant inefficiencies within the "Office of Works and Public Buildings," including absentee staff, questionable sanity of the Surveyor, and over 2000 audit queries related to the Board of Works' finances.
