Caleb John Raleigh, also known as "Big Dumper", is a professional baseball catcher for the Seattle Mariners. He plays in MLB. Raleigh is recognized for his power hitting abilities, his overall skills as a catcher, and his ability to switch hit.


1961: Tying Mickey Mantle's Record

On September 14, 2025, Raleigh tied Mickey Mantle's 1961 record for most home runs by a switch hitter. That homer was also Raleigh's 43rd home run this season while playing catcher, passing Javy Lopez in 2003 for the single-season record.

2018: Drafted by the Seattle Mariners

In 2018, Raleigh was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the third round, with the 90th overall pick, of the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. He signed with the Mariners, receiving an $854,000 signing bonus. He made his professional debut that summer with the Low-A Everett AquaSox, batting .288 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs in 38 games.

2018: Final Year at FSU

In 2018, during his final year at FSU, Raleigh slashed .326/.447/.583 with 13 home runs and 54 RBIs in 62 games.

2019: All-Star and Double-A Promotion

In 2019, Raleigh started with the High-A Modesto Nuts, where he was named a California League All-Star. He was later promoted to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers. In 121 games for the two clubs, Raleigh slashed .251/.323/.497 with 29 home runs and 82 RBIs.

July 11, 2021: MLB Debut

In 2022, Raleigh initially struggled, but after being optioned down to Tacoma and returning, his bat blossomed, hitting .228 with an .854 OPS and 24 home runs the rest of the season. On September 30, Raleigh hit a walk-off home run to clinch the Mariners' first postseason appearance since 2001.

2022: ALCS Home Runs

In 2022, during Game 1 of the AL Championship Series (ALCS) against the Toronto Blue Jays, Cal Raleigh hit a game-tying home run off Kevin Gausman in the sixth inning. In Game 5, he hit another game-tying home run, contributing to a 6–2 victory for the Mariners. In Game 7, Raleigh hit his fifth home run of the postseason.

May 15, 2023: Switch-Hitting Home Run Feat at Fenway Park

On May 15, 2023, Raleigh became the first catcher to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game at Fenway Park, hitting his home runs in consecutive plate appearances.

April 23, 2024: Home Run Despite Broken Tooth

On April 23, 2024, Raleigh broke a tooth after biting down on a sandwich. Despite the severe pain, he hit a home run in that night's game against the Texas Rangers.

June 13, 2024: Buhner Buzz Cut

2024: Gold Glove and Platinum Glove Winner

In 2024, Raleigh won an American League (AL) Gold Glove Award and the Platinum Glove Award, which is awarded to the best defensive player in the league.
