Cryptomnesia is a memory bias where a forgotten memory resurfaces, but the individual doesn't recognize it as a memory. Instead, they believe it's a novel and original thought or creation. This leads to the unintentional and unconscious expression of existing memories as if they were new ideas, tunes, or jokes. It is not a deliberate act of plagiarism, but rather a genuine misattribution of the source of the memory, causing the person to unknowingly reproduce something they've previously encountered or learned.
