Darren White is a former Sheriff of Bernalillo County, New Mexico, serving from 2002. Prior to this, he was the Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Public Safety under Governor Gary Johnson, a position he resigned from due to disagreements over marijuana legalization. In 2009, he was appointed Chief Public Safety Officer for Albuquerque by Mayor Richard J. Berry. White later resigned from this position following allegations of questionable police procedure related to a family member, though he was subsequently cleared by an independent commission.
