Garden Variety was an American post-hardcore band prominent in the 1990s. Their musical style was influenced by established underground acts, including Soul Asylum, Squirrel Bait, and Jawbox, blending elements of these bands into their own sound.

1991: Formation of Garden Variety

In 1991, Anthony Roman and Anthony Rizzo advertised for a drummer in a Long Island punk zine, leading to Joe Gorelick joining and the formation of Garden Variety.

1993: Self-Titled Album Release

In 1993, Garden Variety released their self-titled album.

1994: Knocking the Skill Level Album Release

In 1994, Garden Variety released "Knocking the Skill Level".

1995: Appearances and Compilation Features

In 1995, Garden Variety appeared on the Lookout Records compilation Punk Rock USA with Jawbreaker, the Anti Matter CD/vinyl compilation with Texas is the Reason and Quicksand, and several VHS video compilations. They were also interviewed by Janeane Garofalo on the "7-Up listen up" series.

1996: Band Disbandment

In 1996, Garden Variety disbanded.

1996: Vogue Interview and Band Breakup

In 1996, Garden Variety was interviewed by Vogue magazine for its Spring issue. Later in 1996, due to creative differences and internal conflict, the band broke up.
