Jeimer Candelario is a professional baseball third baseman and first baseman currently playing for the Cincinnati Reds in MLB. Previously, he played for the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Washington Nationals. He also represents the Dominican Republic in international baseball competitions.
On November 20, 2010, Candelario signed with the Chicago Cubs.
In 2012, Candelario played with the Boise Hawks of the Low–A Northwest League.
In 2013, Candelario played with the Kane County Cougars of the Single–A Midwest League.
In 2014, Candelario played with Kane County and the Daytona Cubs.
In 2015, Candelario started the season with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and was promoted to the Tennessee Smokies of the Double-A Southern League during the season. The Cubs added him to their 40-man roster after the season.
On July 3, 2016, Candelario was promoted to the major league team to replace Chris Coghlan. He made his major-league debut the same day against the New York Mets.
In 2016, Candelario batted .333 in his first 25 games for the Iowa Cubs of the Triple–A Pacific Coast League.
On July 31, 2017, Candelario was traded to the Detroit Tigers with Isaac Paredes and a player to be named later or cash considerations in exchange for Alex Avila and Justin Wilson.
Candelario began 2018 as the Tigers’ regular third baseman. He hit .224 with 19 home runs and 54 RBIs for the season.
On March 31, 2019, in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Candelario had five hits for the first time in his career.
In 2020, Candelario began the season at third base for the Tigers, but was moved to first base following an injury to C. J. Cron. He was named AL Player of the Week for September 7–13, 2020.
On January 15, 2021, the Tigers and Candelario agreed to a one-year, $2.85 million contract, avoiding arbitration.
On March 22, 2022, Candelario signed a one-year, $5.8 million contract with the Tigers.
On November 29, 2022, Candelario signed a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals for $5 million and another $1 million in achievable incentives.
On July 31, 2023, the Nationals traded Candelario to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for DJ Herz and Kevin Made.
On December 11, 2023, Candelario signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
On June 23, 2025, Candelario was designated for assignment by the Reds.
