Jonathan Kuminga is a Congolese professional basketball player currently playing for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. A highly-regarded five-star recruit, Kuminga bypassed college to join the NBA G League Ignite before entering the NBA. He completed his high school career at The Patrick School in Hillside, New Jersey. Kuminga was considered a top prospect in his class.
On October 6, 2002, Jonathan Malangu Kuminga was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In 2016, Kuminga moved from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the U.S. to pursue high school basketball.
In January 2019, Jonathan Kuminga was named the most valuable player of the Slam Dunk to the Beach showcase after scoring 40 points in a game, which set a single-game record at the event, despite a loss to Gonzaga College High School.
On December 23, 2019, Jonathan Kuminga made his season debut for The Patrick School, scoring 20 points in a win over Roselle Catholic High School, following a 30-day ineligibility period due to transfer rules.
In 2019, Jonathan Kuminga's older brother, Joel Ntambwe, transferred to Texas Tech to play college basketball after playing for UNLV.
On January 3, 2020, Kuminga suffered an ankle sprain, sidelining him for approximately one month.
On July 15, 2020, Jonathan Kuminga reclassified to the 2020 class and announced he would join the NBA G League Ignite, foregoing college basketball offers from multiple universities.
On February 10, 2021, Jonathan Kuminga made his debut for the NBA G League Ignite, recording 19 points, four assists, and four rebounds in a 110–104 victory over the Santa Cruz Warriors.
On August 3, 2021, Jonathan Kuminga signed a contract with the Golden State Warriors.
In 2021, the Warriors selected Kuminga with the seventh overall pick in the NBA draft, and he subsequently won an NBA championship with the team during his rookie season.
On February 18, 2022, Jonathan Kuminga participated in the Rising Stars Challenge game for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game weekend, as a replacement for the injured Chris Duarte.
On August 26, 2022, Jonathan Kuminga debuted for the DR Congo men's national basketball team, scoring a team-high 18 points along with 6 rebounds in a 69–71 loss to Cameroon during the African 2023 World Cup qualifiers.
On January 24, 2024, Jonathan Kuminga scored 25 points on 11-for-11 shooting against the Atlanta Hawks, tying Chris Mullin's Warriors franchise record for most made shots without a miss.
On December 27, 2024, Jonathan Kuminga scored a career-high 34 points, along with 10 rebounds and five assists, in a 102–92 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
On January 4, 2025, Jonathan Kuminga suffered a sprained ankle during a 121–113 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, which led to him missing 31 consecutive games.
