In 2019, Keagen Trost started two games for Morgan State as a true freshman. He played in four games, redshirted, and left the team to move closer to home.
In 2020, Trost transferred to Indiana State Sycamores. The season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and he did not play.
In 2021, Trost appeared in only two games, starting one, due to injuries.
During the 2022 season, Trost started 11 games for Indiana State.
In 2024, Trost transferred to Wake Forest Demon Deacons, where he appeared in all 12 games.
In 2025, Trost transferred to the Missouri Tigers for his final season. He started 13 games, was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) and first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus (PFF). He was invited to the East–West Shrine Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine.
