Scheduled for release on August 8, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, the game serves as a prequel to the original Mafia, promising a new narrative experience within the established Mafia universe.

August 2022: Development Confirmation and Direction

In August 2022, Hangar 13 confirmed that they had started working on a new Mafia project. They also indicated that this new title, Mafia: The Old Country, would return to the series' roots with a deep, linear narrative and a setting similar to the first Mafia game. Additionally, the lack of Italian dubbing sparked controversy which resulted in Hangar 13 announcing they would offer voice acting in Sicilian.
