McPherson College, established in 1887 and located in McPherson, Kansas, is a private college affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, ensuring its academic standards meet regional criteria.
Since the 1902–03 academic year, McPherson College has been competing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
In 1926, J Willard Hershey synthesized one of the world's earliest synthetic diamonds on the McPherson College campus, sparking debate about their authenticity. One of these diamonds is on display at the McPherson Museum.
In 1962, McPherson College became a charter member of Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA), expanding its international educational opportunities.
McPherson College's Automotive Restoration Technology program focuses on the restoration of automobiles built up to 1970.
In 1976, local entrepreneur Gaines H. "Smokey" Billue provided funds for the construction of Templeton Hall and launched the Automotive Restoration Technology program through the donation of his classic car collection.
Since 1997, Jay Leno became a financial supporter of the Automotive Restoration Technology program.

By the fall of 2010, McPherson College achieved its highest student fall enrollment in over 40 years, marking a significant period of growth.
In 2011, the Global Enterprise Challenge focused on Haiti, tasking student teams with creating plans to meet a need in the country.
In 2012, the Global Enterprise Challenge focused on Panama, challenging student teams to develop plans to address a need in the country.
In the fall of 2012, McPherson College began offering graduate courses in education, designed as a foundation for a master's degree, and endorsed by three regional school districts.
In the summer of 2012, McPherson Stadium was renovated, and two large practice fields were added to the campus, enhancing the athletic facilities.
In November 2022, an anonymous donor promised to match every dollar raised by McPherson College up to $500 million, significantly boosting the college's endowment.
In 2022, McPherson College's student population consisted of 810 students, 64% male and 36% female, with 63% identifying as white and 28% as minorities. 44% are from Kansas and 51% are out of state.
