Parris Island is a district within Port Royal, South Carolina, situated on an island of the same name. It officially became part of Port Royal on October 11, 2002, with the annexation of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Previously, the U.S. Census Bureau recognized Parris Island as a census-designated place (CDP) when it was an unincorporated area within Beaufort County. The population recorded in the 2000 census was 4,841. Geographically, Parris Island falls within the Beaufort Urban Cluster and the broader Hilton Head Island–Beaufort Micropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.
