The Presidents Cup is a golf tournament where a team of male golfers from the United States competes against a team of male golfers from around the world, excluding Europe. A similar tournament, the Ryder Cup, pits the United States against Europe.

1994: Inaugural Presidents Cup

The first ever Presidents Cup was held in 1994.

2000: Presidents Cup Format Change

The Presidents Cup was extended from three days to four days in 2000.

2001: Presidents Cup Schedule Shift

Due to the September 11 attacks, the 2001 Ryder Cup was cancelled, causing the Presidents Cup to shift to odd-numbered years.

2003: Presidents Cup Tie

The 2003 Presidents Cup ended in a tie after the tiebreaker match was stopped due to darkness. Captains Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus agreed that both teams would share the Cup.

2005: New Rule for Singles Matches

In 2005, a new rule was implemented for singles matches. Matches tied at the end of 18 holes would be extended until a winner was decided. This rule was in effect until 2013 but was never needed.

2005: Change to Tie-Breaker Format

Prior to 2005, a tie-breaker format was used in the Presidents Cup. However, this format was changed starting in 2005.

2013: Removal of Singles Match Extension Rule

The rule extending tied singles matches was removed in 2013.

2015: Presidents Cup Format Change

In 2015, the format for the Presidents Cup was changed to include nine foursome doubles matches, nine fourball doubles matches, and 12 singles matches.

2020: Presidents Cup Schedule Shift Back to Even-Numbered Years

The Presidents Cup reverted back to being held in even-numbered years following the postponement of the 2020 Ryder Cup due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2024: Future Presidents Cup Location Announcement

In 2024, the Presidents Cup will be held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from September 24-29.
