FuboTV is an American over-the-top (OTT) streaming service with a focus on live sports. Operating in the US, Canada, and Spain, Fubo offers a variety of channels, including those broadcasting the Premier League, NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, and CPL. In addition to sports, Fubo's offerings extend to news, network television series, and movies. FuboTV is based in Midtown Manhattan and aims to provide a comprehensive streaming experience for sports enthusiasts and general entertainment consumers alike.
In June 2021, FuboTV was added to the Russell 2000 Index at the conclusion of the 2021 Russell indexes annual reconstitution.
On January 1, 2015, Fubo was launched as a soccer streaming service.
In January 2015, FuboTV was co-founded by David Gandler, Alberto Horihuela, and Sung Ho Choi, initially costing $7 per month and offering livestreams from soccer-centric channels.
In 2017, Fubo built its tech stack internally and launched features like Cloud DVR storage, pausing and unpausing live streams and lookback of previously aired content for 72 hours
In 2017, Fubo transitioned to an all-sports service and then adopted a virtual multichannel video programming distributor (vMVPD) model.
In early 2017, Fubo pivoted to become a broader streaming service, adding entertainment and news programming in addition to sports programming.
In March 2018, Fubo introduced a third stream option for $5.99 per month, expanding the streaming capabilities beyond the base subscription package of two simultaneous streams.
In December 2018, Fubo announced its plans to expand into Spain.
On February 20, 2019, it was announced that channels from Viacom networks would be added on April 30, 2019, though these networks do not feature sports content.
On March 5, 2019, FuboTV expanded its 4K support to the Big Ten Network.
Channels from Viacom networks were added to FuboTV on April 30, 2019.
In May 2019, FuboTV and FanDuel partnered to integrate sports betting data on the live TV streaming service. The deal included carriage of FanDuel's horse racing networks, TVG (now FanDuel TV) and TVG2 (now FanDuel Racing).
On June 19, 2019, FuboTV announced that it would be adding the Discovery Networks to its lineup.
On June 27, 2019, FuboTV launched Fubo Sports Network, a free, ad-supported linear channel accessible to consumers on Xumo. Subsequently, it became available on smart TVs like Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels via Xumo, as well as on The Roku Channel.
On September 9, 2019, Fubo announced the addition of a slate of sports-oriented original programming to Fubo Sports Network, including Call It A Night, Drinks With Binks, The Cooligans, and The Players Lounge.
In 2019, FuboTV was named to Forbes’ Next Billion-Dollar Startups list.
On January 1, 2020, FuboTV dropped the Fox Sports Networks due to increasing carriage costs after their acquisition by the Sinclair Broadcast Group.
FuboTV launched the NHL Network on March 9, 2020, with plans to add MLB Network and MLB Strike Zone.
On March 23, 2020, FuboTV was acquired by FaceBank Group, a publicly listed virtual entertainment technology company. FuboTV was renamed FuboTV Media, Inc., and Facebank Group was renamed FuboTV, Inc., retaining David Gandler as CEO.
In April 2020, Fubo Sports Network was added to the new Vizio Channels platform, expanding its reach to more viewers.
In May 2020, Fubo announced a partnership with former NBA All Star Gilbert Arenas to bring his No Chill podcast to Fubo Sports Network as a weekly vodcast. Retitled No Chill with Gilbert Arenas, the show features Arenas and co-host Mike Botticello interviewing athletes, coaches and celebrities.
As of May 19, 2020, Fubo Sports Network is available on 75 million devices.
In June 2020, FuboTV announced a deal with Disney Media Networks to bring ESPN Inc., and Walt Disney Television to the sports-focused streaming service sometime in the summer.
On July 1, 2020, FuboTV dropped WarnerMedia networks, including Cartoon Network, CNN, TBS, and TNT.
On September 10, 2020, Major League Wrestling (MLW) announced that their weekly flagship show, MLW Fusion, would move to Fubo Sports Network on November 18.
On September 15, 2020, FuboTV announced it expected to close 2020 with 410,000–420,000 subscribers due to the return of sports during the COVID-19 pandemic and the company also announced it was approved to list on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) conditional upon successful pricing of this offering, under the ticker symbol FUBO.
On October 7, 2020, FuboTV completed its initial public offering as a New York Stock Exchange company, raising roughly $183 million.
On October 8, 2020, FuboTV began trading on the NYSE under the ticker symbol "FUBO", with shares jumping 10% in their market debut.
In December 2020, FuboTV acquired Balto Sports.

On June 20, 2023, Fubo launched the Maximum Effort Channel in partnership with Ryan Reynolds. In addition to Fubo, the channel is available on free streaming platforms like Amazon's Freevee, Xumo Play and Tubi.
In September 2023, Fubo faced a proposed class-action lawsuit in Illinois regarding alleged illegal sharing of customer viewing history with advertisers without consent. Also around the same time, Dish Network sued Fubo for allegedly violating streaming-related patents.

In June 2024, Comcast announced a deal to make Fubo available to its Xfinity Flex, Xumo Stream Box customers, and Xumo TVs.
In August 2024, a federal judge indicated Fubo was likely to succeed in its lawsuit against the Venu Sports joint venture and granted a preliminary injunction to halt its launch. The involved parties plan to appeal the ruling, while Fubo will proceed with its lawsuit.
In September 2024, Fubo became the first virtual multichannel video programming distributor (vMVPD) to enable users to customize their channel selection for multiviewing on Roku devices, allowing Roku Ultra owners to stream up to four channels simultaneously, while owners of Roku Express 4K/4K+ and Roku Streaming Stick 4K/4K+ can stream two channels at once.
In October 2024, Fubo announced an agreement with the Chicago Sports Network. Also in October, Fubo launched a standalone subscription service called Premium Subscription Services that lets users subscribe to specific live and on-demand content without needing a base channel plan.
In November 2024, Fubo announced a deal with NBCUniversal to add 18 NBCU FAST channels to its platform, including Noticias Telemundo Ahora, NBC Sports, and Today All Day. Four Telemundo channels launched immediately on Fubo's Spanish-language Latino plan and all English-language channel plans. The remaining 14 channels were slated to launch soon after.
For the 2024 evaluation, J.D. Power gave Fubo a customer satisfaction score of 578, putting it ahead of DirecTV Stream's score of 558. Fubo trailed YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV.
On January 6, 2025, The Walt Disney Company announced its intent to acquire a 70% stake in Fubo, who will merge with Hulu's live TV service. The combined company will remain public, but will be controlled by Disney shareholders and will be a sister service to Disney+, ESPN+, and the aforementioned Hulu.
In February 2025, Fubo announced it would begin streaming its Fubo Sports linear network on over-the-air channels in over 100 markets across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, making the service accessible to more than 12 million traditional TV households.
