Prince

A prince is a male ruler or a male member of a monarch's family. It is a title of nobility, often hereditary, in some European countries. The female equivalent is princess. The word derives from Latin 'princeps', meaning 'the first, foremost, the chief, most distinguished, noble ruler'.

1947: Dissolution of the Empire

In 1947, the Empire of India dissolved, and the princely states began acceding to the newly formed Union of India and the Dominion of Pakistan.

1949: Accession to India and Pakistan

Between 1947 and 1949, the hereditary Indian rulers of the princely states completed their accession to the newly formed Union of India and the Dominion of Pakistan.
