Sarah Elizabeth McBride is an American politician and activist serving as the U.S. Representative-elect for Delaware's at-large congressional district. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served in the Delaware Senate, representing the 1st district from 2021. Before entering politics, McBride worked as the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign. Her 2020 election to the Delaware Senate made history, as she became the first openly transgender state senator in the United States. This also made her the highest-ranking openly transgender elected official in U.S. history. Her recent election to the U.S. House of Representatives continues her rise in American politics.
