1999: EPA Enforcement Action

In 1999, the United States Environmental Protection Agency initiated an enforcement action against Alabama Power under the Clean Air Act.

2006: Settlement and Appeal

In 2006, the EPA announced Alabama Power agreed to spend over $200 million to upgrade pollution controls as a partial settlement; claims regarding five coal-fired plants proceeded to trial where Alabama Power prevailed, but the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) planned to appeal the ruling.
