He currently wrestles for WWE and AAA, where he holds the AAA Mega Championship for the second time. He gained prominence in WWE as Alberto Del Rio and in Impact Wrestling as Alberto El Patrón.

2000: Olympic Team Absence

In 2000, Alberto Del Rio was on track to compete at the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia; however, Mexico did not send a wrestling team that year due to a lack of funding and support.

January 2009: Turned Down WWE's Offer

In January 2009, Rodríguez turned down an offer from WWE due to specific reasons that the new contract in June would eventually address.

January 2014: Feud with Batista leading to Royal Rumble

In January 2014, Del Rio defeated Sin Cara on Raw and insulted Batista, who was soon to return, promising to eliminate him at the Royal Rumble. He defeated Rey Mysterio on the January 13th episode of Raw and again confronted Batista. On the January 20th episode of Raw, after Del Rio defeated Mysterio, Batista returned and attacked Del Rio with a Batista Bomb. At the Royal Rumble on January 26th, Del Rio entered at number 27 and was eliminated by Batista.

September 2014: Feud with Ray Gonzalez continues

In September 2014, the storyline with Rodriguez continued, confirming El Patrón's presence at Aniversario. However, he was unable to appear, and Hernandez replaced him at Aniversario.

2014: WWE Release

In 2014, Alberto Del Rio participated in the Money in the Bank ladder match for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship, losing to John Cena. He was unsuccessful in challenging Sheamus for the United States Championship and participated in a battle royal for the Intercontinental Championship. After losing several matches, Del Rio was fired from WWE on August 7, 2014, for unprofessional conduct following an altercation with an employee.

March 2015: ROH World Television Championship Challenge

On March 1, 2015, at ROH 13th Anniversary Show, El Patrón unsuccessfully challenged Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship.

May 2015: Feud with Johnny Mundo

In May 2015, Alberto defeated Johnny Mundo in a match for the number one contender for the Lucha Underground Championship. On May 13, 2015, Alberto was defeated by Hernandez after Mundo threw him against a window, losing his opportunity. Then, Alberto and Mundo feuded until Ultima Lucha.

October 2015: Unhappiness with WWE Return

Reportedly, Alberto Rodríguez was unhappy with WWE, claiming he had been given empty promises, including a main event push, when he made his return in October 2015.

December 2015: Match against Ray Gonzalez

On December 5, 2015, González Sr. defeated El Patrón by disqualification at WWC's Lockout event.

August 2016: WWE Suspension and Contract Opt-Out

On August 18, 2016, Alberto Rodríguez was suspended for thirty days due to his first violation of WWE's wellness policy. On August 30, 2016, it was reported that he would exercise an opt-out clause from his WWE contract.

July 2017: Suspension from Impact Wrestling

On July 12, 2017, El Patrón was suspended from Impact Wrestling due to a personal domestic violence issue with his girlfriend Paige. As a result of the suspension, he was stripped of the Unified GFW World Heavyweight Championship on August 14.

April 2018: Release from Impact Wrestling

Alberto El Patron was released from Impact on April 7, 2018 after no-showing the Lucha Underground vs Impact Wrestling event in New Orleans.

2018: Failed Return to Triplemanía

In 2018, El Patrón was announced to return at Triplemanía XXVI. However, on August 21, 2018, AAA did not mention his match, and Rodríguez explained he would not appear due to disagreements with Dorian Roldán over money and the lack of an opponent.

May 2020: Arrest in San Antonio, Texas

On May 9, 2020, Alberto Rodríguez was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, after allegedly battering and sexually assaulting his girlfriend. He was charged with sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm but was released on bail the following day.
