Comerica Bank Tower

Comerica Bank Tower is a 60-story postmodern skyscraper situated at 1717 Main Street in downtown Dallas, Texas. Completed in 1987 and designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, the tower reaches a structural height of 787 feet (240 m). It ranks as the third tallest skyscraper in Dallas, the sixth tallest building in Texas, and the 61st tallest in the United States. The building encompasses 1,500,000 square feet (100,000 m2) of office space.

1985: Construction Begins

Construction of the tower began in 1985.

1987: Building Completion

In 1987, the Comerica Bank Tower, designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, was completed with 1,500,000 square feet of office space.

1987: Tower Opens, MCorp Leases Space

In 1987, the tower opened with MCorp initially leasing 600,000 square feet of space. However, it faced legal challenges due to economic downturn and the savings and loan scandal.

1991: Building Foreclosure

In 1991, the building went into foreclosure due to loan defaults.

1995: Second Foreclosure

In 1995, the building faced its second foreclosure in city history due to continued financial difficulties.

1997: Crescent Real Estate Equities Buys Bank One Center

In 1997, Crescent Real Estate Equities, in partnership with Trizec Properties, acquired the Bank One Center from Cigna and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas for $238 million.

December 14, 2006: Building Sold to Metropolitan Real Estate Developers

On December 14, 2006, Crescent sold the structure to Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Real Estate Developers for US$216 million.

March 6, 2007: Comerica Announces Headquarters Relocation

On March 6, 2007, Comerica announced its decision to relocate its corporate headquarters to Dallas.

November 2007: Comerica Executives Move In

In November 2007, Comerica executives began moving into 1717 Main Street, which was renamed Comerica Bank Tower.

January 2, 2008: TM Advertising Move

On January 2, 2008, TM Advertising planned to move into the building, taking four floors with 130,000 square feet of space for 340 employees, previously occupied by TXU Energy.
