E. M. Antoniadi

Eugène Michel Antoniadi was a Greek-French astronomer renowned for his planetary observations and contributions to planetary cartography. He is best known for developing the Antoniadi scale, a measure of seeing conditions, and for his detailed observations of Mars, where he famously opposed the existence of Martian canals. Antoniadi produced extensive maps of Mars, and many Martian features still bear the names he proposed. He also created the first map of Mercury, although later observations revealed inaccuracies in his depiction of the planet's features.
