Eureka Day centers on a progressive and liberal school board in Berkeley, California, grappling with a mumps outbreak. The board, self-described as committed to consensus-based decision-making, finds their ideals challenged as differing opinions on vaccination arise among the parents. The play explores themes of privilege, groupthink, the limits of tolerance, and the challenges of navigating differing viewpoints in an increasingly polarized society. The initial conflict escalates, revealing deeper divisions within the community regarding science, personal beliefs, and the very definition of what it means to be a progressive parent. The play satirizes contemporary social and political discourse.
