Hurricane Barbara, the first hurricane of the 2013 Pacific hurricane season and the easternmost landfalling Pacific hurricane on record, formed southeast of Mexico on May 28. It strengthened into a tropical storm on May 29, then rapidly intensified into a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall in Chiapas, Mexico, on May 29 with 80 mph winds and a 983 mbar pressure. Its landfall marked the second-earliest hurricane landfall in the basin since 1966. Barbara dissipated over the Sierra Madre de Chiapas mountains on May 30 after crossing the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
