Ian Anderson is a British musician, primarily known as the lead vocalist, flautist, and acoustic guitarist for the rock band Jethro Tull. A multi-instrumentalist, he also plays harmonica, keyboard, bass guitar, and various other instruments. Beyond his work with Jethro Tull, Anderson has pursued a solo career, releasing several albums, including 'Walk into Light' and 'TaaB 2: Whatever Happened to Gerald Bostock?', the sequel to Jethro Tull's 'Thick as a Brick'.
In 1976, Ian Anderson married Shona Learoyd, who was described as the daughter of a wealthy wool manufacturer and was working at Jethro Tull's record label, Chrysalis Records. She later became involved with the band's on-stage special effects.
In May 2020, during an interview on The Big Interview with Dan Rather, Ian Anderson revealed that he had been diagnosed with incurable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He attributed the condition to the use of on-stage smoke machines during his career and was managing it with medication and breathing exercises.
