Jack Kirby was a highly influential and prolific American comic book artist, considered a major innovator in the medium. Growing up in New York City, he began his career in the 1930s, initially using various pen names before settling on Jack Kirby. In 1940, he partnered with Joe Simon to create the iconic superhero Captain America for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. Throughout the 1940s, Kirby frequently collaborated with Simon, developing numerous characters for Timely and National Comics Publications (later DC Comics).
