He gained initial recognition on BET's series *The Game*, but his breakout role was as Martin "Lawrence" Walker in HBO's *Insecure*, for which he won an NAACP Image Award. Ellis has also transitioned to film, starring in the horror film *Escape Room* and appearing in the blockbuster *Top Gun: Maverick*.
