A member of the Democratic Party, Dexter currently serves as the U.S. representative for Oregon's 3rd congressional district, a position she has held since 2025. Prior to this, she represented the 33rd district in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2020 to 2024. Her district included portions of Northwest Portland and nearby areas such as Cedar Mill and Bethany.
