Navan Fort

Navan Fort, near Armagh, Northern Ireland, is an ancient ceremonial site significant in pre-Christian Gaelic Ireland, traditionally linked to the Ulaidh and featuring prominently in Irish mythology, especially the Ulster Cycle. Archeological evidence reveals a large circular hilltop enclosure with a bank and ditch, containing a mound and ring barrow. Excavations show evidence of past structures, notably a large roundhouse-like building, possibly a temple, which was ritually filled with stones, burned, and covered with earth, forming the mound. Navan Fort is believed to have been a pagan ceremonial site, viewed as sacred, though mythical depictions exceed archaeological findings.
