Outerbridge Crossing

The Outerbridge Crossing is a cantilever bridge connecting Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and Staten Island, New York, via the Arthur Kill. Carrying New York State Route 440 and New Jersey Route 440, it's one of three vehicular bridges linking New Jersey and Staten Island. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey maintains and operates the Outerbridge Crossing, along with the Bayonne Bridge and the Goethals Bridge.

1925: Construction began

In 1925, construction began on the Outerbridge Crossing, which was named after Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge.

June 29, 1928: Opening of Outerbridge Crossing

On June 29, 1928, the Outerbridge Crossing opened simultaneously with the first Goethals Bridge.

1928: Construction completed

August 1970: Toll Changes

As of January 5, 2025, the tolls-by-mail rate going from New Jersey to New York City is $18.31 for cars and motorcycles.
