Scent of a Woman (1992) centers on Charlie Simms, a prep school student working as a caretaker for the blind, cantankerous, and suicidal retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade over Thanksgiving. Slade plans a hedonistic final trip to New York City, indulging in fine dining, expensive hotels, and encounters with women. Charlie, initially intimidated, grows to understand Slade and becomes embroiled in his plans. Simultaneously, Charlie faces an ethical dilemma at school, witnessing a prank and facing pressure to identify the perpetrators. Slade, despite his cynicism, ultimately helps Charlie navigate the situation with a powerful speech, defending Charlie's integrity and preventing his expulsion. The film explores themes of integrity, responsibility, and finding value in life despite hardship.
