Shallow Hal

Shallow Hal, a 2001 romantic comedy directed by the Farrelly Brothers, follows Hal Larson (Jack Black), a superficial man who only cares about physical attractiveness. After being hypnotized by motivational speaker Tony Robbins, Hal begins to see people's inner beauty reflected outwardly. He then meets and falls in love with Rosemary Shanahan (Gwyneth Paltrow), a kind and generous woman whom Hal perceives as slender and beautiful, but who is actually significantly overweight. The film explores themes of inner beauty and societal standards of attractiveness, as Hal navigates his relationship with Rosemary while dealing with the reactions of his friends and the eventual breaking of the hypnosis.
