Shinedown

Shinedown is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2001 by vocalist Brent Smith. Following the disbandment of Smith's previous band, he formed Shinedown with Jasin Todd, Brad Stewart, and Barry Kerch. The band experienced several lineup changes before solidifying with Smith, Kerch, Zach Myers, and Eric Bass. Shinedown has released seven studio albums, including 'Leave a Whisper,' 'Us and Them,' 'The Sound of Madness,' 'Amaryllis,' 'Threat to Survival,' 'Attention Attention,' and 'Planet Zero.' They are currently producing their eighth album and released four singles from it in 2025, continuing their career in the rock music scene.

2000: Dreve signed a record deal with Atlantic Records

In 2000, Brent Smith's prior band, Dreve, signed a record deal with Atlantic Records.

2001: Band Formation

In 2001, Shinedown was formed in Jacksonville, Florida by singer Brent Smith after his previous band Dreve dissolved. Smith recruited Jasin Todd, Brad Stewart, and Barry Kerch for the original lineup.

2006: Touring and promotional support

In 2006, Shinedown toured on the SnoCore Tour with Seether, Flyleaf, and Halestorm. They also opened for Godsmack and Rob Zombie. Chris Daughtry performed "I Dare You" on American Idol, and it was used as a theme song for WrestleMania 22.

2007: Writing new material and recruiting studio musicians

In 2007, Brent Smith spent much of the year writing new material for the third album with Rick Beato, and recruited studio musicians for recording sessions. Demos were sent to Rob Cavallo, who agreed to produce the album.
