Oliver Taylor Hawkins (Taylor Hawkins) was an American musician best known as the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters, a position he held from 1997 until his death in 2022. He shared vocal duties with Dave Grohl and recorded eight studio albums with the band. Prior to joining Foo Fighters, Hawkins toured as a drummer for Sass Jordan and Alanis Morissette and played with the experimental band Sylvia. His energetic performances and musical talent made him a beloved figure in the rock music community.
On February 17, 1972, Oliver Taylor Hawkins, who later became known as Taylor Hawkins, was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He would later become the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters.
In 1976, Taylor Hawkins' family moved to Laguna Beach, California, where he grew up.
In 1977, the Genesis live album Seconds Out was released, which inspired Taylor Hawkins after he listened to Neil Peart of Rush.
In 1990, Taylor Hawkins graduated from Laguna Beach High School, where he had been friends with future Yes lead vocalist Jon Davison.
In 2005, Taylor Hawkins married Alison. Together they had three children.
In the 2011 documentary Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, Dave Grohl revealed that he wrote the song "On the Mend" from the band's 2005 album In Your Honor about Taylor Hawkins while he was in a coma.
In 2012, Taylor Hawkins and his family moved to Hidden Hills, California, after moving from Topanga Canyon.
In 2018, Taylor Hawkins spoke about his 2001 overdose incident, saying that he was partying a lot and that it was a real changing point for him. He also said he was sober.
In a June 2021 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Taylor Hawkins discussed his health, mentioning he gets sinus infections really bad, is in amazing shape, and likely has sleep apnea.
On June 8, 2022, the Foo Fighters and the family of Taylor Hawkins announced two tribute shows to honor him.
On September 3, 2022, the first tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins was held at Wembley Stadium in London. The Foo Fighters were joined by numerous artists, including Travis Barker, Nandi Bushell, Liam Gallagher, Brian May, Paul McCartney and Hawkins' son Oliver Shane Hawkins who performed "My Hero". The concert was streamed live on YouTube and Paramount+, and broadcast on CBS.
On September 27, 2022, the second tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins took place at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. It featured Hawkins' bandmates and guest artists including Jack Black, Miley Cyrus, Alanis Morissette, and Pink. Shane Hawkins also played with Chevy Metal.
