"Alien: Romulus" is a new science fiction horror film and the seventh installment in the popular "Alien" franchise. The story takes place between the first two films, "Alien" (1979) and "Aliens" (1986). Fede Álvarez directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. The movie features a cast including Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. Fans of the "Alien" series can expect more thrilling suspense and extraterrestrial terror in this latest addition to the franchise.
During CinemaCon in 2019, Disney officially confirmed that new Alien films were in development following their acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
In March 2022, Fede Álvarez was announced as the writer and director for the new Alien film after pitching his own story. The project was initially intended for release on Hulu.
March 2023 saw several casting announcements for the film. Isabela Merced joined the cast, followed by David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Principal photography for Alien: Romulus concluded on July 3, 2023, after filming in Budapest.
In November 2023, it was announced that the film would be set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), with some technical crew members returning from Aliens.
Alien: Romulus is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 16, 2024.
