Art Briles is an American football coach, most notably the former head coach of the Houston Cougars and Baylor Bears. He achieved significant success at Baylor, transforming the program into a national contender. However, his tenure ended in scandal; he was fired in 2015 due to his alleged mishandling of sexual assault allegations within the football program. Briles has authored 'Beating Goliath' and is the subject of the biography 'Looking Up'. He currently coaches in the Italian Football League.

In 2013, Art Briles led Baylor to one of the best seasons in school history, finishing with a school-record 11 wins and the Big 12 title. They earned a trip to the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.

On May 26, 2016, Baylor released a findings of fact document prepared by the board of regents based on an independent investigation by Pepper Hamilton. The report reflected concerns about the tone and culture within Baylor’s football program, and the regents suspended Briles with intent to fire him.
In June 2016, Art Briles and Baylor reached a settlement, formally terminating his contract but providing him with a letter of recommendation and a severance fee. In a joint statement, both sides acknowledged shortcomings in the response to reports of sexual violence. Ken Starr and Ian McCaw also lost their jobs because of the scandal.
In May 2017, Baylor's legal counsel Christopher Holmes sent Art Briles a letter saying that Baylor was unaware of Briles discouraging victims from reporting to law enforcement or university officials.
On August 28, 2017, Art Briles was hired as assistant head coach for offense by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but, due to criticism and league pressure, the offer was rescinded hours later.
